Today my compaq presario cq57 fan failed. i just turned it on and i got a message to stop using my laptop and to go to this site. my laptop sits on a desk all day so i don't now how it could of broken. the only thing what worrys me is, the warrenty runs out tommrow (27/12/12). so will it still be. With the power off and the power cable disconnected, gently spin the fan with your fingers to make sure the fan is not stuck. if the fan blades do not move or resist movement, replace the fan. leave the side panel open, connect the power cable, and turn on the computer.. Did you check the hp support page and see if a bios update is available? it's probably something that wouldn't show if you did a driver update scan. also this a an older thread..
